Omni is an intelligent dialogue experience, enabling self-serve data exploration while ensuring proper governance. This democratizes analytics by allowing business users to quickly get data-driven insights through a conversational experience.
This guide will help you get started with setting up, using, and troubleshooting Omni’s MS Teams app. Follow the steps below to make the most out of your experience.
1. Installation Guide
Prerequisites
Before you start, please make sure:
- You have a Microsoft Teams account.
- You have the appropriate permissions to add new apps to your MS Teams.
Step-by-Step Installation
1. Add the app to your MS Teams account:
- Visit Team’s Apps marketplace
- Search for illumex Omni
- Click on Add
- After successfully installed, a pop-up window is prompt, click on Open
2. Authorize the App:
- Omni’s Teams app does not require any special authorization configuration process. Instead, it simply matches your MS Teams email with your illumex user account. Here’s what you need to ensure:
- Email Match: Make sure your Teams user email is the same as your registered email with illumex.
- illumex User Setup: As long as you have an active user profile in illumex, you can immediately start using the app without any additional setup.
- Omni’s Teams app does not require any special authorization configuration process. Instead, it simply matches your MS Teams email with your illumex user account. Here’s what you need to ensure:

1. You will see a default first message from Omni in its dedicated app channel, confirming the successful installation

2. Getting Started
Omni is ready for use right out of the box—no special configurations or onboarding required. Once installed:
- Simply type your question directly – You can ask definition questions (e.g., “What is a DAU?”) or analytical questions (e.g., “Show me the sales gross margin for the last quarter”).
- Are you feeling overwhelmed? You can always type “what can I ask you?” in the app’s channel to get your own personalized examples of Omni’s capabilities.

3. How to Use Omni
Omni offers a range of features to help streamline your analytic tasks. Here’s how you can use some of the key functions:
- Information Retrieval: provide users with precise and factual information to specific business-related inquiries.
Typically involves direct questions requesting definitions or explanations of business terms, like: “what’s the description of …”, “how do we define …” , “what is …” - Analytical Translation: interpret and provide reasoning to an analytical query.
Typically involves explanatory requests where users ask for the answer of a non-technical data representation, like: “calculate the …”, “list all …”, “count how many …”, “what is our …”
Omni is also designed to offer maximum flexibility based on your preferences. When you ask a question, you have two options :
1. Let Omni Decide – Full Autonomous Response
- Omni automatically interprets your question and provides the most relevant answer based on its understanding, without any follow-up questions.
- This is perfect for quick queries where you want instant insights without having to be familiar with your data model or catalog.
2. Let Me Choose – User’s Interactive Selection
- If you prefer more control, Omni always presents multiple relevant options based on your question.
- You can then select the specific information that best matches your needs using interactive buttons.

4. Troubleshooting
Here are some common issues and how to resolve them:
Issue 1: “I can’t install the app in MS Teams.”
- Solution: Ensure you have sufficient permissions in your MS Teams account. Contact your workspace admin to verify your permissions.
Issue 2: “The app isn’t responding to questions.”
